Who We Are And What We Do
Who we are: We’re Calvary Chapel’s fellowship of high school students. All high school students are welcome regardless of where they attend school.
What we do: We meet Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings for fellowship, worship, and in-depth studies of the Scriptures. Our focus is to be built up in the Lord as a group and as individual young men and women.
What to expect: The most important emphasis of our lives is to glorify God. He has done awesome things, and we want to sit at His feet, express our thanks and praises unto Him, and honor Him by learning more of Him. At each of the services, there is emphasis on praise and worship, and especially verse by verse study of God’s Word. We do not assume that high schoolers are incapable of knowing the deep things of the scripture, but rather we aspire to attain a true knowledge of the Scriptures, worship, and community. The ultimate goal is to train young men and women to move forward in their lives. Our goal is to build up and establish a solid foundation in the Lord, so that the students are equipped to follow the great commission given in Matthew 28:19-20 and change the world for Christ.
Praise and Worship: The focus of the Worship is God Himself. The ministry of worship and praise is intended to draw our hearts into an attitude of joyful praise and reflection as we offer up to God. We hold to the fact that there are many facets to worship and encourage our students to reach out to the Lord in more than just song just as John 4:24 teaches.
Biblical Instruction: Learning more of Him is an expression of our faith. As we seek Him through His Word, we continually discover that our sin is worse than we have ever feared, that He loves us more than we have ever imagined, and that He is more wonderful than we could ever comprehend. Learning more of Him leads us to put less confidence in ourselves and trust more in Him, which is why the theme verse for the youth group is John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
Youth Leader Nick Lang teaches verse-by-verse through God’s Word. By exploring the Bible in this manner, his hope is to increase the students appetite to study the Word on their own, and discover the life changing truths that are contained within! Nick also takes opportunities to take specific topics and expound upon them so that they may learn more in depth with topics that may be relevant to life changes and situations. Nick also has special question and answer nights which are a great time of interaction where the students can have the hard questions answered on the spot.
